The Manolo Sanchez Prize awards $25,000 to a student-led for-profit or non-profit startup with the potential to help improve the financial health of the financially underserved.
We welcome this brand new donor-funded prize to the ecosystem of prizes at Startup Yale. Projects seeking to develop a solution among credit, insurance, payments and remittances, savings and personal financial management, financial education, or infrastructure addressing special challenges of underserved individuals and families are encouraged to apply.
Courtney is currently a Principal at Deloitte & Touche LLP focused on providing advisory services in the risk and regulatory space to banking and securities clients. Overall, he has 20+ years of experience in the financial services industry focused on regulatory reform, risk management, and capital management. He also leads Deloitte Financial Inclusion efforts which involves engaging Financial Services clients on strategy and approaches to address unserved and underserved market segments.
Aireka Harvell is the Co-founder and CEO of Nodat, geo-targeting mobile marketing and loyalty platform. She also co-founded, Twende the first accelerator for founders of color in Tennessee. Aireka has a decade of experience in high-scale customer loyalty with national companies AT&T and American Express Plenti Loyalty.
Anu Shultes is the CEO of Ahead Financials and LendUp. Prior to this position, she was General Manager of the loans business at LendUp. Anu is a 30-year veteran of the financial services industry and has a personal mission to lift people out of poverty and infuses her work with a passion for financial inclusion. Anu’s career spans a broad spectrum of roles across subprime credit cards, subprime loans, and prepaid cards. Her significant experience in building efficient operational processes and teams to support them has led her to become one of the few female CEOs in Fintech.
Rodney Williams is the Co-founder of SoLo (SoLo Funds), the leading financial service company for everyday Americans, enabling community banking and lending solutions. Prior to founding SoLo, Rodney founded LISNR (Visa Backed Fintech) and led the company to numerous awards and partnerships across retail and financial services. He currently serves as the company’s Chairman. Rodney’s career started at Procter & Gamble in brand management where he was a critical catalyst in the company’s digital strategy and start in eCommerce & social media. Rodney has been recognized with numerous awards, including Ad Age’s 40 Under 40 in 2012; Cannes Gold Lion award in 2015; and CNBC Disruptor 50 List in 2015, 2016, 2018 and 2019 to name a few. Rodney is a graduate of West Virginia University and Howard University. He is a member of the 2019 Class of Henry Crown Fellows within the Aspen Global Leadership Network at the Aspen Institute.
